This summer Dechen Choling will continue our popular new leadership program for teenagers and young adults (ages 15-25).

Participants of the Youth Leadership programme 2007
The idea for this program came from the hope to fulfill 2 different requests we hear again and again- to offer more engaging childcare for all of the programs, and to provide opportunities for teenagers and young adults to spend time at DCL during the summer months. Therefore, the program consists of three parts:
1. Leadership training- Shambhala has a wealth of teachings on how to be a genuine and effective leader. We are also fortunate to have many senior students who, for many years, have been putting these teaching into practice in their personal and professional lives. There will be regular discussion groups and talks by senior students and visiting teachers.
2. Mentorship- To put these teachings into action, the participants will also be in charge of childcare and will act as mentors/caretakers to the younger children on the land. This is a very important job, not only is there responsibility for the well-being and education of children of different ages, but also being a liaison between parents and staff. Mentors will lead children in fun activities, art projects and even meditation!
3. Sangha (community)- Everyone who participates in this program will be a part of a close group who live, learn, and work together. There will be plenty of time to socialize with new and old friends, and participate in the various summer activities and events at Dechen Chöling.
It is our hope that participants will walk away with unique wisdom, work experience and memories of a summer of friends, practice, and fun.
