Dathün is a one-month group meditation retreat. Participants are introduced to, and guided in, mindfulness-awareness meditation. The dathün is suitable for relative newcomers as well as experienced students who wish to engage in a period of intensive practice. Such intensive meditation deepens our understanding of our own life and mind, and can be profoundly life changing. Each day consists of nine to ten hours of sitting and walking meditation, shamatha yoga sessions, talks, study, and a short work period. Periods of group silence are observed. Meals are served oryoki-style from the Zen tradition. Frequent individual meditation instruction is provided.
The dathün is the foundation of the Shambhala Buddhist path, and is required for more advanced study and practice intensives such as Sutrayana Seminary. We recommend that you plan to attend the entire month. However, a limited number of spaces will be available for people who can only manage two weeks - in this case, the departure day for the first half, and the arrival day for the second half, would be Sunday August 17.
Registration is already closed for this program.
